Professional Experience –  Amit’s post-qualification experience began from 2007, in the field of corporate and international taxes.

Background

Amit is a Law Graduate and a Chartered Accountant with 16+ years’ experience in corporate and international tax advisory, litigation and compliances.

He has worked in past with organizations such as KPMG India, Ernst & Young and PwC as a part of their tax and regulatory practice.

Professional experience

Amit has worked on tax matters of several large multinationals, Indian startup companies, overseas investors/ funds and domestic companies across sectors such as Technology, Telecom, GCC, Manufacturing, Defence, Oil & Gas etc.

He has advised clients on tax and regulatory implications of business transactions and complex tax technical issues such as Permanent Establishment (PE), Fee for Technical Services (FTS), Equalisation Levy, Royalty, indirect transfers, Business Restructuring, Contract Structuring, secondment of employees etc., besides handling routine tax compliances and advisory.

Amit has represented clients in the course of various income tax proceedings, including assessments, appeals, objections before DRP and other miscellaneous matters. He has also supported Counsels in matters before Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), the Authority for Advance Rulings (AAR) and High Court.

He has advised clients on complex business transactions like acquisition/ sale of business, slump sale, asset sale, conversion of private limited company into LLP, amalgamation, demerger etc.

He has advised overseas funds on inbound investments into Indian startups from various jurisdictions such as Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore etc. as well as externalisation of Indian startups into jurisdictions such as Singapore, China, Bangladesh, Philippines etc.

Amit has extensive experience in direct tax compliances including tax return filings, advance tax computations, withholding tax on foreign remittances, obtaining lower withholding tax orders, TP compliances and supporting TP litigation.

He has helped clients in establishing their business presence in India, by obtaining approvals and / or registrations from Indian tax and regulatory authorities. He has also assisted Branch Offices, Liasion Offices and Project Offices of foreign companies in undertaking compliances under FEMA.

Amit has undertaken impact assessment studies of developments in international tax domain, such as changes introduced due to OECD / G20 BEPS Project, Multi-Lateral Instrument (MLI), Place of Effective Management (POEM) regulations, General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR), attribution of profits to Permanent Establishments, etc.

Amit has undertaken UAE corporate tax impact assessment studies for a number of UAE based companies operating in sectors such as manufacturing, shipping, real estate, trading, retail etc. He is also undertaking evaluation of Economic Substance Requirement Regulations (ESR) applicability for various clients and assisting them in undertaking ESR compliances.

He is a regular speaker in seminars organized by various forums, both national and international, such as NALSAR University of Law, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA), Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) etc. He is frequently invited by corporates to train their teams on recent developments in corporate and international taxation.
